I decided to make up a jig for checkering. Mostly for recutting checkering on stocks that are on the receiver. I find that the stock mounted on the receiver is more stable and easier to manipulate. Anyway, I used some scrap aluminum and some oak I had and a small part of an oak table leg.
I made several sets of blocks and have different length screws for holding. All parts made so as not to mar a receiver.

screw holes allow for different receiver shapes, lengths etc.

dont mind the mess on the bench.

Nice idea and it's comforting to see a bench that doesn't look like one out of a NASA Clean Room. I also tend to store things in archaeological order.
