I dont think there is much to be gained. The relatively small increase in payload doesnt do much. If you really want to do it, any good smith would work, I think

Merkels are not lightweights in the sxs world. The pressure standard for a 3" 12ga is the same as for 2 3/4", so in that respect, it should not be an issue. But I'd agree with Joe (for once!) that I would not bother--unless maybe you intend to shoot steel in the gun, in which case 3" does give you some advantages. If that's the case, you'd need to consider opening the chokes if they're tighter than mod.

Hello Argolee504.

I am interested in the reason you would want the chamber increased to 3 inches.

I assume the gun in question is a 20 gauge?

The only application for a 3 inch 12 gauge I have is in hunting crane and geese.

Thanks
Mike

Well I suppose it will never end. Always another one coming down the pike wanting to deepen chambers. Maybe it's time to bring back chamberless shotguns. That'll fix 'em.

Everyone with a 283 wants to bore it to a 302. That's life.
