Just noticed on the Ivory Beads website that they are closing.
I really hate to see that they are closing. There are probably quite a few nice guns in that part of the world and without Ivory Beads being in place I'm not sure who else will bring those guns to the publics attention. I have bought from them in the past and have found them to be first class all the way and a pleasure to work with. IMO the gun trade needs more folks like Ivory Beads.

I believe we are losing a great dealer and SxS resource.
Both Jim & Jerry are great guys...high integrity, honest, knowledgeable and friendly. All rare commodity's in combination these days.
I will miss their establishment.

I bought a gum from Jim last year. It's always a nice visit with those guys.
There's a lot of gun people in this area that appreciated that store. Maybe someone will fill the void and start up another similar store.

Don't you think it possible that, with all the interest today in shopping online, that the internet is actually contributing to the closings we are seeing in nice gun stores? 1cdogs comment about there being a lot of nice doubles in that part of the world prompted that thought.
If I go looking for a particular gun I am just as likely to find it on the 'net at a small, even home-based, dealer as a larger high-end dealer. I have this uneasy feeling that I am being charged more for an equivalent gun at a high-end dealer than for the same gun from an individual. Think about it, you're cutting out the middle-man, which is that dealer.
Don't misunderstand me, I am sorry to see any honest dealers close, but I do think this may be part of the reason, along with the bad economy.

Ivory Beads is closing because the boys want to retire. As far as I can tell, they were not having too much trouble moving high end guns, even in this economy. That is a reflection of the knowledge they brought to the party and the level of service they provided. We don't have any other dealers of that quality in the area, although there is/was a dealer in the Simi Valley that was advertising some nice stuff a couple of years ago. I stopped by Ivory Beads last weekend just to say hello/goodbye, and there were several of the usual suspects hanging around talking about guns and hunting. I will miss them all.

That at least is good news. I have been to their shop several times, have purchased from them, and always consider them to be a top notch operations. They will be sorely missed.

The true catalyst that caused Jim and Jerry to decide to pull the plug on "Ivory Beads" is the deteriorating health of a family member. Beyond that it is a private matter and shouldn't invite speculation or further discussion.
