I'm in Md. near Annapolis. My mid-60's sidelock is giving me fits. Can anyone recommend a nearby (100 miles or so) wizard to work on the infamous SST, or do I need to ship to find competent? Thanks much.

If you decide to ship, New England Custom Gun is an AyA dealer and a well-regarded gunsmith. I have not used them for trigger work but have been pleased with other work they have done on several guns.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Not in your area, but if shipping turns out to be the only alternative then I would recommend Hugh Lomas. link below. He has worked on my doubles including an AYA. Good turn around. If contacting by phone, I have found that it's bet to call before 11:00 am central.

New England Custom also gets my vote - they've done trigger work for me, but on DTs only. Dunno about the SST - why not give them a call? 603-287-4836 - they are straight and will give you an honest answer.

New Englnd Custom Gun is hard to beat, and they handle a lot of AYAs.

Jordan Smith just fixed an AyA over/under sidelock model 37 for a friend of mine. Jordan is the master gunsmith at Orvis in Manchester, VT. Worth shipping it to someone qualified.

I do not know if the SST of your AyA is the type with the selector in the trigger itself. If that is the case, the mechanism is really simple (ugly, but very ingenious) and normally the problem with them is that the adjusting screws loosens and/or catch dirty in the moving parts.
If you have some basic gunsmith skills, I think you can adjust and clean your trigger by yourself. You only need a good set of screwdrivers to unassemble the shotgun and take out the trigger assembly. Some small parts inside, like a spring (not a coil spring, but a "right" one that is the "soul" of the system.
I adjusted one of this 2 years ago in an AyA 37 super and it is performing fine without a single malfunction since then.

I recently went to Albright's for a gun fitting. They have a young guy there named Alex who was very knowledgable and pretty passionate about his trade. Not sure what his specialty is, but there were a good number of vintage doubles there for various work. They also had a couple of used AyA guns for sale, so I am sure they do some type of repair work on them.

On a sidelock try loosening or tightening the screw a little that goes thru the stock to each sideplate.
