Does the hammer get in the way of your sight after the first shot has been fired? It looks like that would be problem on long shots if you have to lead the target a lot. I was a kid the last time I shot a hammer gun.

If you see the hammer you are not focused on the target.

What if the target is directly in front of the hammer? Lets say the left hammer has been shot and you have a left to right crosser at about 50 yds. and you have to lead it about 8-10 feet. Would the hammer not get in the way?

Light bends around objects. If you are focused on an object 20-30 yards away, then an object a few inches in front of your eye will be so out of focus that the focused light will bend around it. You will not even be aware of it. The problem arises when you shift your focus to the near object. If that happens you were going to miss anyway.

I have shot with a hammer gun for longer than i care to think - and it has never been a problem i have been aware of - but i shoot with 2 eyes open.
This first photo shows the picture from a right eye - right shoulder.

And yes you are right - the hammer - either cocked or down will obscure part of your vision. As you can see i have purposly focused at the distance like you should when shooting a shotgun.
This second photo shows you what your left eye will see and when you brain combines the two images the hammers will become transparent and the problem goes away - another good reasion to shoot both eyes open.

But only if your shooting shoulder is next to your dominant eye!

Buck, if you'd like to shoot some hammer guns before buying one let me know and you can try some of mine.
