For my 1922 Merkel Mauser 98 sporter [img:center][/img] [img:center][/img] [img:center][/img]

How about pictures to go along with the order sheet, I am curious as well as I also own a Merkel 98 sporter from 1928.

I'll do the left side page for you- and let resident expert on Deutsche Gewehren-- Raimey Ellenberg- do the right side-- Lauf- barrel- Lauf Stahl-- a barrel steel grade-- Krupp Flusstahl for example- Lauf can be confusing- as it can mean a beer barrel as well as a rifle (Gewehr) barrel- but it can also be used as a verb- meaning- to run-- like Run mit Der Fuchs,??-- anyway- you have a well balanced rifle at aprox 6 & 3/4 lbs. (not metric?) maybe I deciphered that wrong-- with a flat style bolt handle and std carbine style rear sights set for 1000 meters range- All parts polished (cleaned actually- sauber) inside and hand fitted- Mauser style bolt handle (grasp)and shank wit stippled finish-- (and darn fine looking weapon it is- and in our .30 cal- or 7.62x63--bet it shoots like a house afire too!!

Lauf = barrel: ktgrd = kantig-rund = octagon-round, 22'' long = 56 cm
Well balanced 6 3/4 pounds american

System = action: flat bolt handle, set trigger,
Carbine sight up to 1000 m (guess that's the Lyman sight)
All clean work inside and outside

Schaft = stock: well grained stock
Drawing shows drop at nose (36 mm) and drop at heel (68 mm)
"36" at butt may be width of buttplate in mm, or LOP in cm??

Einschiessen = sighting: Powder is rusting fast and strong ("Powder fast and strong rusting")
After shooting clean immediately several times thoroughly with Ballistol

Eddie,
Looks like a nice rifle, curious as to how you have determined it is a Merkel? Is it marked on the rib or elsewhere? Mine has the Merco (Oskar Merkel) trademark on the bbl & distinctive shaped front trigger of the Merco triggers (can't see in your photo) would also like to see the 30GOV'T06 markings on the gun. Mine is engraved in the left side of the action, is that where yours is identified?

It say's "Gebruder Merkel,Suhl" on the left side of the barrel.
