Sorry guys being OT. I have been unable to find this info out anywhere. What year of MFG. would an early Browning A5 with a serial number of 3494 Twenty Gauge with magazine cut off have? Thanks Jerry

If I read my Browning book correctly, the A5 in 20ga wasn't introduced til mid 1958.
No pre-war A-5's were made in 20ga,,only 12 and 16.

Betw 6/1958 and 6/1959,, 4,694 20ga A5 shotguns were produced.
So somewhere in that first year should be the production of your shotgun.

This info from 'Browning, Sporting Arms of Distinction' by Eastman.

I had no idea, I like to look stuff up and learn something too..

There are "Browning" 20 ga. A5's made earlier. During the WWII years they were made by Remington on the Browning patent. Made in USA, not in Belgium. I think their slang term is "American Browning." My guess is during the war, FN was kept busy making other stuff than quail guns.
This is all off the cuff. I haven't gotten mine out of the safe nor consulted a reference book. I think the serial numbers are on their website and in Blue Book of Gun Values.

I was just refering to the FN production,,not the Remington or Savage marked & licensed guns.
I assumed that was what he had reading the title of his post. Perhaps wrongly so.

FN was put to work making stuff for Adolph in 1940.
