It's been cold, single digits every night and I can't remember last time we hit over 20 for a high.

So I've been gettin' into things.

Am about 6 rustings into a Savage 24 barrel set and am not getting anywhere with the top rifle barrel. Bottom shotgun tube is almost "there"....top tube is still pretty lacking for coverage. It's to the point that the bottom barrel is still blue-green while the top one is covered in rust....but takes 2 days rusting to get to that point.

These barrels were brazed, so may have been originally hot blued.

Enough info to suggest a remedy? I am using WinRest blueing.

Also, is Swif 95 suitable for re-attaching a FE lug, non-acid fluxed? I had some delivered, but see no reference on the label as to acid or rosin based flux.

Thanks,
Mark

Swift is not rosen or even related to it, it is a good flux I have used often.

Try Laurel Mountain. It's a tad more aggressive than Winrest. Wets really well due to detergent content. Winrest needs a really hot humid hotbox.

Some steels don't take rust blue very well. Not sure which. Have never had a problem with a barrel but I currently have with a bolt shroud from a comml Mauser.
