I am looking to create a wet-weather working double. I am currently looking at a Charles Daly Model 500. It has 2 chambers. Because this guns primary use will be waterfowling. I would like to open the chambers to 3 inch. My question is this action strong enough to handle modern 3 inch steel waterfowl loads? I believe this is functionally the same action as the Browning BSS and they are chambered for 3 inch loads.

I am also considering a Teflon type coating for the exterior of the gun since I regularly hunt the salt marsh and this is a very tough environment to gun metal. Has anyone done this type of coating on their double and what results have you had, both functionally and aesthetically?

I use CZs with good reults for alot of my waterfowl shooting. If it's mud or brackish waters (La. Hunts) it is my go to SxS. Have it used it for 7 years without a problem.

American Arms imports a dedicated waterfowl gun with 3-1/2" chambers in both 10 and 12. I have the Turkey special and it will handle any shell you put in her. Very utilitarian but I have been using mine for 15 years without even a hiccup. Chrome lined barrels, choke tubes and single trigger along with a very reasonable price tag. You should check them out - they're built like a tank.

www.yildizshotgun.com/21e.html Hit the detail button for a good view.

$486.99 at Academy Sports. Warranty work done by Briley in Houston. Chrome lined barrels, black chrome outside on barrels. All she needs is a little lightening of the trigger.

The Cabela's in Buda has a "French SXS" with all Belgium proofs. It must have been some kinda very special "made for Cabela's" order. Or perhaps they're mistaken, though I pointed out the apparent error to them a month ago and it still sits there labeled French SXS.
