Huntingtons lists it but none in stock. Anyone know of either brass or loaded ammo out there for sale? I have heard that the Sellier and Bellot brass leaves something to be desired. Thanks

bghntr416 I also prefer RWS brass, but in my experience, S&B brass is perfectly satisfactory. If you insist on RWS brand, you can use RWS 7x57R.I believe the shoulder is in a little different location, so size the 7x57R just enough to chamber, then fireform. For whatever it's worth,6,5x57R is a great cartridge. With that I think I will go ahead and try the S&B brass but I still hope to find some RWS. I just got this rifle so I am scrambling to get some info on the caliber and good loads. I hear this is a very popular cartridge in Europe.

Try www.reedsammo.comI don't see yours there but he shows a few odd ball rimmed RWS calibers, could always ask. Bob

It's a super cartridge, IMO an even better all-around certridge than the 257 Roberts. I'm an enthusiastic user of the 6.5x55, 6.5-257 and 6.5-06 and at one time shot a nice little Mauser 6.5x57 but not the rimmed version.
I found the RWS 6.5x57 brass to have too-shallow primer pockets and too-small flash holes. In addition I found it to be softer than some US brass, sometimes by quite a bit. I machined the primer pockets and flash holes but eventually much of the soft RWS brass had to be discarded. As always YMMV. Regards, Joe

I have three boxes of RWS brass, unused, I'd be happy to sell. Let me know if intertested.

I sent Reeds an email, will see if I get a response. Interesting notes about the RWS brass. Most of the posts I have read have been positive, go figure. All the more reason to try the S&B brass. Just have to order dies. Looks like the mauser and rimmed dies are the same. RCBS lists them as being the same but other die companies do not seem to list them that way??? I am excited about this little cartridge. Of course it does help that I have it on a Gibbs Farquharson action.

J.D.Steele Joe,I never had that problem with RWS brass, I use it in 7x57R,6.5x57R,9.3x74R,9.3x62,9.3x72R,8x57IRS,8x57I,and 5.6x50R. I agree it is a little softer than old DWM, but I found that an advantage. Maybe you just had a bad batch. bghntr416 6.5x57 dies are used with either version, just different shellholders.Actually, you can use 6.5x55 dies( if you already have them)as necksizing dies, if you only have one rifle.
