I have bought and sold several items from the "For Sale" section and all dealings have been forthright and above board until now. I responded to a for sale add with a PM "I will purchase" if the item is still available. (the item had been lowered in price by the seller") I received an PM that stated I could have the item for $100 more than the listed price. I responded with a PM "that didn't match the listed price." I then received a PM that said the item was sold. It was apparent the item was sold but the seller was working me against the other buyer for more money. I won't play those underhanded games.

I worked out a trade with a "big name in doubles",we were to UPS the goods to each other. I did he didn't. I paid for him to inspect and try the part. He returned it but I never saw his stuff. After he returned my barrels I offered to buy his parts, he said not for sale. I feel that I was gamed by a less than class person.

Why not summarize the deal in the for sale thread just inquiring about terms and bump it up a few times if the seller wants it to die and fade away. You'd think a seller would be happy to answer.

Sounds like some got the bad end of a "good" deal.

I once got abused, by email,by a seller, a frequent poster on this site, for offering a couple of hundred dollars less than the offering price.

There are often some interesting attitudes on this site, and I have been dressed down and sucked into a few pissing contests as well, but my transactions here have all been excellent and easy. Just lucky I guess. Rick

As to "not playing those underhanded games", that's probably the best idea you've had all day. Sounds like a deal worth avoiding with a seller worth avoiding.
If you're really chapped about losing the deal (I wouldn't be, see above), then put the entire chronology of the deal - including the pms, showing everything - up in a post on the sale thread, or on a thread you control with no comment of your own. Just "this is what happened". As the old saying goes "sunlight is the best disinfectant".
I haven't had any issues on this site but, like with anything else, there's a first time for everything.

I'm not going to drag this out. Life goes on. I've got my eye on this guy and won't hesitate to inform others of his dealings if required. Over 10 years on here without a bad deal...that's a pretty good run.

It's always amazing to me to see how people will lower themselves for a few bucks. I like to think that the $100 guy will spend that money on a fine steak dinner, and during the course of the meal a chunk of steak will get stuck in his throat and he'll choke to death. The universe seeks a balance, I believe.
