Years ago I bought a Ithaca Nitro special 16 ga for rabbit hunting but like a fool I sold it to buy the next won't ever miss shotgun. Now almost 30 years later I'm looking at buying another SxS but this time it will be my grouse gun and I want it to be a 20ga. I'm looking to get the best bang for my buck and this is where I'm going to need some schooling. When I'm ready to buy I will be willing to spend about $1500ish on my new gun. I know I want it to weigh in close to 6lbs, I don't care if it has choke tubes or not as long as it is choked Imp/ mod and I like both straight stocks and pistol grip stocks. I would like something new but this is going to be a hunting gun and if I can find a higher quality used gun for the same money and it's in good shape I would also consider that as well. As a trap and sporting clays shooter I know all about gun fit and how it affects scores so I know I need to go some place where I can shoulder a few guns to see what stock dimensions fit me the best(maybe LCS)but for right now I need options on guns in my price range so I know what to start looking at. I'm looking forward to all of your opinions
Thank you Lee

FIRST, WELCOME !!! Questons 1. Where do you live? So we can advise a location to try guns. 2. What is your length of pull for your sporting clays gun? 3. You want new or used? 4. Side by side only consideration? 5. Single or double trigger? Looking forwards to your response. Mike p.s something like this Derby in your ballpark? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=318150755

To get 6 lb made in the last 40 years at your price range, you almost have to go Spanish. This is a little more than you want to spend, but would make a super grouse gun; 20 ga 6 lb sidelock choked skeet/ic with ejectors. I bet you can get them down on the price because of the wear. Probably carried a lot and not shot much. Looks like it was made in 1996. It's the same as a Grade IV. http://www.gunsinternational.com/Ugartechea-Mod-75-20ga.cfm?gun_id=100261451

Skeettx, Answers, 1) I live in North west Pa. 2)I shoot a factory length Browning, 15"? 3)New or Used-- Either is fine I just want the best bang for my buck. 4) I was thinking SxS but I sure do like my O/U's so I would consider those as well. 5)I would prefer a single trigger but a double trigger is fine.
The derby looks nice except of it's weight. It's closer to 7 lbs then 6. Thanks Lee

If you're willing to go used, you can almost certainly find a Sterlingworth in shooter-plus condition within your price range. (By way of example, there was one (20/26, IC/M) sold through the FS page of this site about 2 months ago, for somewhere around 1100.) Similarly, it should be pretty easy to find an Ithaca Flues near the lower end of your price range.
It may take a while and some looking, but that's half the fun.
I like that Derby, BTW. Good catch, Skeettx!

They may take it.

How aout A used BSS or SKB 200 in 20 ga. Good value there in a used gun, without having to worry about anything real old being worn out internally.
If you go older alike an sterling worth or say LC filed or even Ideal grade, stay away from single triggers. Good luck. It is a disease once you get started.

Thanks for all the comments. Now I have an idea on what to look for. I started out thinking I would be happy with a CZ Bobwhite but the more I read up on them the less I wanted one. Then I saw the add for these, ugartechea grade1 boxlock and that's what got me wondering about quality/$$$. I'm not much of an impulse buyer and I don't have all the money saved up yet not to mention that I love to look up and investigate products especially guns so I probably won't be buying anything until spring. Next year has all the makings of a Great year, A new hunting puppy and a new hunting gun. Thanks again Lee
