Yesterday my step-son Matt and I took Zack and Val out after quail. I was gathering up our stuff when I thought about a lot of different memories and ideas.
I picked up my 16 gauge G.E.Lefever. I owe the pleasure of that gun to a good friend on our board, bbman3, that sold it to me as a project gun. Topgun took his time to answer a hundred questions over several phone calls. He turned me on to someone that could restore the gun correctly at a fair price.
Matt's outfit is 39 years old. It came from J.C. Penneys, paid for with grocery money my Mom scrimped up. I thought I was the grandest 6 year old in the world when I opened that box. Mom paid almost $20 for that outfit.
When I started deer hunting this year,Matt annonced he wanted to go too. We had a ball. I shot a 5 point for him. He and Zack are big pals so he wanted to try quail hunting. He told me he was a little disappointed that they only pointed with their noses.I have been blessed to have him as a hunting companion.
After the hunt, I met to double gun addicts that were shooting 5 stand. They saw the Lefever. I admired a Lang one was holding. Before I knew it, they were hauling guns out of their cars for me to enjoy. I had never met either of them before.
What other sport can you enjoy your children, dogs, and good friends. Even ones you just met.

I am an old man. I have memories. Some are wonderful.
The time I spent with my grandfather afield are very alive with me to this day. I still love his memory.
It is with great appreciation that I look at these pics and read these words.
Life is good when lifelong memories are made and then shared with friends.
God loves the man that takes a boy afield.
Best,
John

I expect your son will grow to forgive that dog his nose, and that he will also grow to know that he is blessed for every moment afield .. matter of fact, I'd be willing to bet the latter is already well in place. How could it not? Most kind of you to share.
