I have this old 12 ga. 101 and I'm trying to figure out what the choke costriction is. It's marked Skt/Skt so I assume it's somewhere around .005". I can measure the dia. of the muzzel but witout knowing the actual bore dia. I won't know the constriction. I don't have a bore gauge. Has anyone ever measured one? They were probably all the same. Older gun around 1970 without tubes. Thanks.

Jim, Save yourself some headaches and find a buddy with a bore micrometer. Then you'll know for sure.

Chuck's measurement agrees with mine. I no longer own a 101, but once had several. Most were right around .734 bore. For a time skeet-marked 101s (also Mirokus) lacked any constriction. I don't know why/how the Japanese developed this notion - probably from all the new, whiz-bang shotcup hype (or prophesying McIntosh - just kidding).

I owned a 4-bbl Diamond skeet and all 4 bbl sets had zero constriction.......not exactly what you want in .410.

I also owned a few 12 ga Winchoked 101s, and the skeet choke tubes invariably resulted in less than .002.

Thanks all.

This info is good. Looks like I have about .010 in this gun after measuring the muzzle. I've had this gun for 42 yrears and only used it for about a year when it was new. How the heck does someone hang onto something that long and never use it. I guess mostly because it was my first double. I bet I've had 10, most of them gone. I used to shoot a lot of trap but I'm loosing interest with the price of shot these days. I'm trying to decide which guns to keep and which to sell. I'm pretty sure I'll keep this one as it will work well for skeet and 16yd. trap and it fits. No one wants a 26" gun anymore anyway. Your info has helped. Have a good day.

Jim

The Japanese seemed to suffer from a certain amount of confusion where choke was concerned. The Parker Reproduction 28ga guns, which came out of the same factory as the 101, had constrictions like a 12ga if they had the 28" M/F barrels. I just measured one of those: .015/.035. Maybe those guys thought they only had so much constriction to use, so they saved it up on the 101 skeet guns and used it on the tight-choked 28ga Repros. smile

grin

On a similar note, a friend had a P-gun in .410 that had .036 chokes or thereabouts. Also, a Mario Beschi ICD/NID parts-gun .410 that I have was choked .036/.032ish.
