This gentleman is probaly lost to history, has anyone heard of him.His name is stamped on a 1" octagon barrel, fitted with a collar thats threaded for a Sharps.I would say that it has never been used, but the barrel has a couple of dove-tails cut.Almost forgot...1 in 20 twist,.412 grooves.

Is there more to this story? Context?

Sounds interesting. And Sharps barrels should have 4 dovetails for
front sight
rear sight
Front forearm screw lug
Combination rear forearm screw lug and lever spring anchor block.

It may not have been used but it should be smile

Not much to add Brent,dove-tails for front and rear sight, two 1/8 shallow location holes under forearm.Rifling is cut with a left hand twist.I don't know that Sharps made it ,perhaps S.Wilbur made it to fit a Sharps.I think it would look right on a 63 conversion.A few years ago every other gunshop had 63... with a rusty 50-70 barrel on the rack, where did they all go?

Those were a lot of "a few years ago" They were damn scarce in the early to mid90s when I started getting interested in them. Left hand twist sounds interesting. Too bad it can't tell its story. Just to know who made it would be neat.

Name: Wiilard F Wilbur
Residence Year: 1863
Street Address: 9 Pearl
Residence Place: New Haven, Connecticut
Occupation: Gunsmith
Publication Title: New Haven, Connecticut, City Directory, 1863

Since it's a Sharps barrel I looked around Connecticut and this was all I could find....so far. Have to start someplace.
