Books, single shot, bolt action, doubles, wood and blued steel, the craftsman's and artist's touch; Is all this slowly fading to extinction? Jerry Liles
Maybe for a few but overall I have seen a lot of change in the pre-war custom rifle market. A couple decades ago dealers could not give away a custom rifle built on a 1903 Springfield unless it said "Owen" or "Griffin & Howe" on it, an unknown unmarked rifle sold in the $200-300 range. Back then I would see a few dozen Owen rifles for sale every year, now I see just a hand full.
I tried to go to the Winter Vegas show every year and some dealers would bring 1903-sporters for me to look at that they kept under the table. Now when one surfaces we all jump and grab our collective wallets as fast as we can.
My big advantage, if any, was I thought I saw quality work in many of the unmarked rifles so I bought them when I could.
