My German gunsmith is refinishing a Mauser Model B in 9.3X62 for me and would like to know what kind of recoil pad I want to replace the sadly deteriorated one now on the rifle. My inclination is toward a Silver's pad, but I wonder what kind of pad Mauser originally supplied. The catalog I have mentions a rubber pad, but does not specify color.

Your inclination is correct. Silver pads were the best available worldwide from the 1890's on, and used by all the best makers. Tony Galizans pad is about as close to the original orangy color that I have found.

Best,

Mal

Thanks, I got the same information via PM and have ordered one from Connecticut Shotgun (on sale, for no discernable reason). It looks as though it will fill the bill nicely.
