Anyone here play with one? Have a set of dies? I have R-2 Lovell dies, but they won't work for sizing or seating the Maximum Lovell. Back to square one...
In the same vein, has anyone successfully substituted H-322 powder for 4198 in a small case designed to be most efficient with 4198? Again, for the Max Lovell. I'm out of 4198, but have scads of H-322.

Gary D, I have a Maximum Lovell.Krag action converted to single shot. I got my dies from CH/4D They work quite well. My barrel is a Winchester 54 so the bore is small. I start my load development with R-2 data;I use both 223 and 224 bullets in smaller weights;still looking for really good loads. I haven't tryed H332; I will have to take a look at it.I'm going to try LilGun starting with K-Hornet loads. It's an interesting caliber. Best wishes, Bill

Gary D,
Correction on my earlier post:the barrel on my rifle is from a Win Model 52(22lr)so the bore is small(typical of many of the early Lovells;it is marked 22-3000,it's been rechamberbed) so I have to keep loads on the light side;looking at some burn rate sites it appears that H332 is slightly slower than 4198 so I will start my load development using 4198 starting loads and work up 1/2 a grain at a time.Brass will make a difference also.I use Jamison 25-20 SS to form cases;I've had problems with Bertram. I hope this helps you some, Bill

Yes, I ordered some Jamison .25-20SS brass and will form into R-2 cases, anneal, and fireform into Max Lovells. I found that I can neck size with a .222 Remington die, and seat with a .22 Vickerman Universal straight line seater. Half baked way of doing it, but at least I'll be able to determine accuracy potential before springing for a set of Maximum Lovell dies.

Gary, To form cases I run a 25-20SS case into the Maximum size die, prime the case, load it with 4 grains of Bullseye, fill the case with filler(I use grits),top with a TP plug and fire in the rifle. I have not found it necessary to anneal. Then neck size with the 222 sizs die and load. All you need to do is neck the the 25-20 case enough to chamber in your rife to do the fire forming. This might save you some steps and and give you some cases to try. Best wishes, Bill

Thanks for the tips, Bill. Up 'til now my sole source of reference for managing a Maximum Lovell has been Landis' book on .22 CF's.
