Did anybody here bid on or get this Springfield? I don't know much about these but I liked the engraving of the animals. Sure seems to have sold for a low price.

Thanks for sharing Bob, I did not buy it. Engraving looks very typical of German or Austrian work. I don't care much for the cheek piece, seems like it is too low on the stock. May just be my eye, however.

Seems to be a lot of rifle for the price. But the lack of any real description is a turn-off. You shouldn't have to email for every little bit of info you need.
It doesn't even confirm the caliber for you let alone anything else other than it's 'excellent condition'.
The fact that it's a Remington WW2 '03 probably turns away more than a few potential Springfield Sporter fans.

The "Sorry we cannot take returns on firearms or amnmo (sic)." statement in their terms and conditions of sale doesn't make people want to send them a check for things they can't take the time to describe.

I agree about the cheek piece.

If I ran across the rifle at a shop or show, I'd certainly stop and look it over.
There's a lot of what appears to be decent work there for the price.
But for me, it just needs some better pics and information when dealing on-line.
I do hope the buyer got a nice rifle though.

We would be better off if we simply quit dealing with any "AS IS no returns or exchanges" no matter any other circumstances.

The animal figures and other details are very similar to a highly finished Johann Springer (Vienna) Mauser 98 that passed through my hands a few years ago. That rifle was dated 1948 and inscribed with the name of a U.S. Army officer. Without any maker name or proof marks it would be hard to tell whether the Remington was finished by a German or Austrian shop, but it was certainly commissioned by a U.S. serviceman immediately after WW2.
