I had some distressing news from Lon Paul yesterday. A wildfire in his area has burned 9000 acres and forced the evacuation of him and his family. At the time he wrote, he did not know the fate of his house or shop, but he had heard that his shop was destroyed. If this is the case, it will be a real tragedy. I will forward any additional news as I receive it.

oh no!Sooo sorry to hear that. Another friend and builder, Jim Bisio, just barely escaped a big fire unscathed near here this summer. Best of luck to Lon.

Very sad to learn this, Lon is a nice man as well as a talented gunmaker. Lon visited me last summer or the year before, he is very knowledgeable about the older classic sporters. http://www.lonpaulcustomguns.com/

heartbreaking...looks like nearly a total loss. Let's hope he had good insurance and a few things survived in the safe.

I had this from Lon last night: " My home survived, my moms place is damaged but I can repair it. I have been sifting through the shop remains to try & recover something..... We have power now (that means water too). Lon"
No response to my question about anything I could do from this distance, except to thank me for the offer.

My heart goes out to Lon - a friend recently lost his shop to fire and it really tears you apart. All the tools and gauges you've made, all the templates and tricks and shortcuts that now have to be recreated. Can we do something for him as a group, perhaps?
