My Crescent's top lever doesn't stay to right when opened.
Is something broken/stuck?
Does snappping it shut do any harm beyond increased wear?

Thanks,

It depends upon how it was originally designed to operate. Not all doubles were designed for the top lever to stay over while open. Do you have to move the lever to the right to close the gun or does it move itself upon closing & then snap back to center when closed. If the gun operates in this manner then this is the way it was designed to be closed. On the other hand "IF" you have to hold the lever over while closing to keep the lug/s from striking the bolt/s then Yes, something is stuck, broken or missing.

Your probably right, it may have been made that way...

All my other doubles stay to the right.

When I close the gun the top lever swings to the right and snaps back.

Thanks,
Craig

About 10 years ago I had a Crescent hammer gun. If I remember correctly the locking bolt was spring loaded, separate from the top lever which also had a return spring. Even after tig welding and hand fitting the hook to put the gun back on face, the top lever was still in the center.
