I'm not much of a reloader but factory 16 ga low pressure shells are sometimes hard to get, like now. So, thinking of buying a mec 600 jr for 16. Anyone have a good recipe for RST hulls 1 oz loads ?? Thx.

Go to the 16ga web site. They have lots of loads and share freely. They also have a spread sheet of low pressure loads of you join them. All tested or verified.

Remember, the RST hulls are made by Cheddite so any loading information for that brand are perfectly proper.

From what I have found there are not many published 1 oz loads for 2 1/2 cheddite hulls. Might have to try finding a 2 3/4 recipe that you can fit into a 2 1/2 hull.

Buzz,

RST & Polywad use Cheddite hulls, made in France and available as new from Graf & Sons. Good hulls, 2.5" in 16 or 12 gauge.

First machine pictured is a 16 MEC with a short kit. For the old guns I load 12, 16 and 20 all with short kits and Cheddite hulls. For the 16 - 2 1/2 inch hull, I use the Gualandi 1618 wad, Remington or Winchester primers, 7/8 oz. lead 7 1/2 shot, Alliant Unique through a #25 bushing which weighs out on an electronic scale to be 15.7 grains for that particular powder. I have used Unique for shotgun & pistol loads for over 55 years and like it's consistency.

MEC has the bushing chart on their website that you can copy. I would advise precise weighing for each bushing, as there are variations based on the powder used and from bushing to bushing even with the same number....

First machine is the 16 MEC.....

Best,

Doug

I agree with PA 24. I use Unique powder for all of my 16 gauge and 20 gauge moderate pressure loads from 3/4 ounce to 1 ounce. It has been around a long time and there is lots of published load data available for all popular hulls. It is moderatly priced and is available about everywhere.

When the shot bottles are loaded, it holds the charge bar firm so an accidental charge cannot be thrown making a mess.

I keep covers on the loaders and the charge bars are not visible to grand kids etc.

All good advise above, except I'd recommend you go with a Sizemaster and eliminate some of the "shop clutter" relating to separate sizing tools.

Thank you for all the good tips. RST makes 1 oz loads in their shells so there may be a 1 oz recipe for the cheddite hull. Any other tips for 1 oz loads even with different hulls? I checked the 16 ga forum.....it appears they want $20 to join to get their recipes which I may do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and opinions.
