Bought my first Elliott style Leg o Mutton case and can't figure out what the purpose is of the leather strap that is attached on one end to the barrel divider.

My receiver and barrels both fit in the case from the same end. The buttstock and receiver drops to the bottom of the case lid when inserted from either end.

Curious what the purpose of the strap is for.

Thanks in advance for any help

I say that strap adjusts for the length of the barrels.

So you can use it to sling the case over your shoulder.

I think the question is about the leather strap in the third photo, not the carry strap. It looks like a way to adjust for barrel length to me...Geo

If I'm not mistaken, its in the Stock and Action compartment, not the barrel compartment. The reason for saying this is that the cover buckles are on top, with the cover hinges at the bottom and it looks like the barrels go in the top compartment?
I therefore guess its there to allow adjustment for stock length, so that the stock and action doesn't slide backwards and forwards in transit. That's a guess though!

I have the almost the same case,A&F;

It has the same "rolled over" material but not leather,I would say its to adjust the barrel length ( and hiding spot for the money you don't tell your wife about grin) .

Thanks for all the replys - - The strap is in the receiver side of the case and I finally figured out that the other end of the strap used to be attached to the inside wall of the case. When attached it will keep the receiver from going down and resting on the opposite case lid. Appears someone removed the stitching maybe to get a longer receiver and buttstock to fit.

Thanks again...
