I stop in at new gun store today and they had a Zoli Rizzini 12 ga box lock shotgun for sale that also had Abercrombie and Fitch marked on the frame. The condition is about 90% and the asking price is $750.00 the barrel length is 28 inches.
My only concern is that the barrels do not touch at the muzzle, is this typical of this brand or have they been cut?

Thank you for any comments

A picture here would really be helpful. Many doubles don't exactly "touch" at the muzzle. I'd also get the exact barrel measurement and see if it's a catalogued length by this maker.

Griffin and Howe have the A&F sales records

that maker isn't listed online yet, but if you contact them they may be able to tell you the original length

I believe they were made only in 28" and 26", so it wasn't shortened.

Does $750.00 sound reasonable if the barrels are not cut?

Yes & I too don't imagine they have been cut, but w/o a pic its impossible to tell. Some of those guns are in a sense like a model 700 Webley & Scott, just good solidly made A&D boxlocks and a pleasure to use. If it comes up nicely for you, I'd say buy it, yesterday!

I can't say I have ever seen any of these guns in other that 26" barrel length. I have looked myself for a 28" in a 20 gauge so I would say this is a find.

I had a 28" 20ga A&F Zoli-Rizzini. Got it from Jack Dudley, back when he was running La Becasse.

Those Z-R's are nice guns. Most were double trigger non-ejectors with a very shallow round knob grip and splinter forend, although there were higher grade versions with ejectors, and some had beavertail (or at least semi-beavertail) forends. $750 for a 12 in nice shape, I'd say, is a very good buy. If it were a 20, it'd be a steal; 28ga, highway robbery.

Several years back, a guy I used to shoot with showed up at the gun club with a Z-R 28ga. Paid something like $300 for it. Told him I'd give him $400 on the spot. (Wasn't sure he was serious about selling and would have offered him a bunch more if he had been.) He ended up taking it to a gunshop, and they gave him a new Benelli autoloader, a soft case, and a bunch of other stuff. The 28's are real wands, and the 20's are darned nice handling too--not that there's anything wrong with the 12's.
