Can anyone help me with a low pressure load? I have Remington hulls, powders I have are red dot, unique, 20/28, primers remingtons, winchesters,or fiocci's. Wads are down range 1 oz. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill

I'm not an expert, but my research ended up showing #7625, and CLAYS as two good low-pressure powders for 12 ga Damascus shotguns. I used both, and targeted 6,000 psi. Both worked well on clay birds and pheasant/quail. The Hodgdon's free manual (and on-line) listed several low pressure handloads.

Remember 7625 has been discontinued
And the Clays production line burnt, no production for a while yet
Other than that - all set

Go to Alliant Powder on line web site. Look for loads which turn up less than 6K or better yet about 5K psi. Look at 7/8 ounce for low loads pressure loads which are numerous and wads are easy to find. There are fewer one ounce loads and when in doubt go lighter rather than load anything too near max. working pressures.

I've had good results using "AA Lite".
A great many loads are published for this powder.
I use one for 7/8 oz. that's listed at 5,400 PSI.

Bill, go to the Hodgdon site; http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/shotgunThere are many loads that are low pressure, under 8,000 psi, for what you want with your components. For the last 1 1/2 years I have been reloading 12 ga. Remington Gun Clubs, 3/4 oz. shot, 15.5grs. Titewad, Claybuster CB0175-12, Remington 209 or Winchester 209 and these are around 7500 psi, but there are plenty more. Bill, sorry, you were looking for Red Dot, then the Alliant site is here; http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/default.aspx?page=/reloaders/index.aspx&I have used Red Dot and is a great load. I also used 3/4 oz. of shot with the CB0175-12 wad.

I use Nitro 100. It produces loads with pressures less than 5k at about 1175 fps. I used 7625 with equal success. I only load low pressure loads as mostly I shoot Damascus. It's a good product. I can be more specific with loads if you need more information.

Any cold weather issues for you guys working up loads in the 5K psi range? I know that a lot of old reloading manuals would indicate that loads at very low pressures can be problematic in cold weather. And I've heard some pretty bloopy sounding loads while shooting with guys with Damascus doubles.
Note that I'm in northern Wisconsin, and we do shoot in temps well below freezing.

I had definite Bloopers using 7625 some years ago & quit using it for anything low pressure. I was even using 1Ľoz shot @ about 7K pressure in a load @ about 1125 fps. I had shot some of them earlier in warmer weather & they went off with Authority. Then got in a Duck Swamp with temps in the 20's & it was a disaster. Load was directly from the DuPont Handloaders Guide. Apparently they had a lot of negative feedback as I noted when the next edition came out DuPont had dropped most of those lower pressure loads with 7625 from their guide.
