I came across this ATF document. Interesting to see who is producing and how many they produce.

I went to the ATF web site and could find these reports for 1998 to 2007, and then 2009. The 2010 and 2012 only open a one-page summary.

I was interested to see how many shotguns CSMC makes per year, and it certainly isn't a lot!!

573 for the entire year? I would have guessed a lot more.

Haha, that's where we are all going. It's less than I expected.

Yes CSMC is strictly carriage trade. A few of the larger shotgun makers in no particular order;

Remington 372419
Ithaca 2465
Maverick arms 534756
Ruger 2793
Beretta 8583
Savage 15332
Kel Tec 7362

949,010 shotguns were produced in the US during 2012.
3,484,883 pistols
667,357 revolvers
3,168,206 rifles
306,154 Misc

Really interesting info. The Lamboy Ithacas were in low numbers too - but I guess that was to be expected. Found out there's a gunmaker just over the mountain from me too. Thanks Pete.

Well, I've seen some confidential documents with Restricted Access, others marked, Confidential for Internal Use Only and many similar titles. With this information being apparently freely available to any dingbat, criminal or terrorist, what the hell is AFT doing publishing it. The manufacturing sources complete with addresses for firearms and in some cases ammo manufacturers as well. What a birthday present for anyone desiring access to a large number of arms complete with addresses.

The mind boggles.

The number of completed firearms on site at any of the locations is probably very low at any given time. I suspect Green Top just North of Richmond, VA has more on hand than most of them.
Anyone looking for genuine assault type weapons would be far better served hitting a National Guard Armory.
It's the information age; nothing is secret anymore, more's the pity.

The makers who produced few, in some cases one shotgun, make them from scratch or are they simply finishers of guns provided by other makers?

It looks like a lot of trouble to get a manufacturing license to make just one gun per year.Especially if that involves the basic machining.

about 4 years ago the BATF started making a big push to get gunsmiths to drop their 01 FFLs and switch to a manufacturing license. The reasoning was somewhat odd, they feel we perform the same tasks done during the manufacturing processes, so therefore we are manufacturers. I have both a importers license and a manufactures license. Every year I file zero new guns built from scratch. Odd, but it is what they want me to do under current reasoning. I do not make the rule but do need to follow them.
