We are at the Southern SxS. We expected RST to show up as usual with lots of 2 1/2" shells. They were a no show. The rumor is they can't get powder. Anybody know anything more than rumors?

I spoke with Alex Papp on Thursday--And he told me that he had to lay off two employees, due to their inability to get powder. Both he, wife Jill, and partner Morris Baker love to attend the many clays events, including the Southern- but as they had no ammo to fill their trailer with, they passed this time- with regrets.

When I spoke with Alex recently, it sounded as if they would be skipping the shoots until they can get more powder and increase production. But if you want a flat or two from them, give them a call. They still have inventory--just not enough to go to the shoots with a trailer load. I got a couple flats from them within the last month.

That is a double edge sword. They, RST, miss a great sale opportunity at the event and the double shooters can not stock up on shells while there. Worse if they are counting on buying shells to shoot they will be left scrambling for other shells. When RST can not find powder to load with we all are in a bind.

These prolonged shortages of primes, powder and .22 ammo are starting to have a telling effect. Gone are the days where you could just walk into your favorite store and buy stuff to shoot and reload. Now if you find it it seems to be at as much inflated price. This instills a hoarding impulse to buy every thing you can when the opportunity presents. I understand the impulse. It is like a starving man finding food, he wants to eat as much as he can because he is afraid the next meal will be long time in coming. But his over eating just means the next fellow finds little left for him.

I also just got a flat of 16ga 2 1/2" loads. But, for reloading around here, it's tough. You can find shot, wads and some primers, but powder is hard to find. I had to go to 3 different stores (all in different towns, Bismarck, Fargo and Minot) just to get enough powder for hunting and target loads.

I think KY Jon hit the nail on the head in his post!

Best!

Greg

I know a few months ago I called and spoke to Alex and I bought what inventory he had on a specific load (extremely light 3/4 oz. for 12 ga.). I kinda got the impression then that he was just focusing on keeping in stock what was popular/in demand. I guess a powder shortage can make you prioritize what you keep in stock.
