Warning! Lefevers are habit forming. Around here if you want to cure a crack addict or heroin user you give them a Lefever. They no longer have money or interest in drugs. Just kidding but wouldn't that be great.

That is a extremely nice looking Lefever. It must have been a bad day for the person who owned it to need to pawn that gun. His loss is your find and we know it has a caring home.

I had a special order Lefever (between A and B grade) very close to this serial number which also had a dog's head escutcheon. Rare in higher grades but not unheard of. As everyone has said before me, you have a wonderful find find there in what looks like very high original condition. Congratulations!

I wondered about the Dog's Head Escutcheon forearm as I didn't see any like it in Bob Elliot's book. I also noticed that some of the C-/CE-Grades pictured had the ebony inlay piece behind the sideplates (45576) while another (48951) had the drop-points like this gun. The CE-Grade pictured in the only Lefever Arms Co. repro catalogue I have has the drop-points.

I fired five shots at station one at skeet this morning with the Lefever just to check function. Its .037" choke right and .034" choke left aren't optimal for skeet, but I got three of the five birds. I was amazed at how dainty the grip felt. I measured it this evening, barely 4 1/8 inch circumference. The two straight grip Ansley H. Fox doubles I shoot the most are 4 3/8 and 4 1/2 inch circumference.

terry;
What cocking system does the special order gun have?. I note that David's, though less than 100 numbers higher, has the large hook, frame mounted sears & doesn't have the cross pin through the frame bar. On the special order gun the ends at least of the cross pin are showing & it has the plate mounted sears. As can be seen in the pics the sear adjusting screw is at a different location according to the sears. I have a G grade @ #29,471 (approximately 1,000 lower number than David's) which is configured identical to David's. Though in great original condition with the Dog'd Head appearing sharp & unworn, being a G it is of course nowhere near as "Elegant" as David's C.
