I ordered a bespoke gun about 2.5 years ago that is almost complete. The order called for an ivory front sight which the company says they can't get anymore. They would like to use a brass sight instead. All my other guns have white beads so Im not sure what to think about brass. Anyone have any suggestions? Gun will be used primarily for upland hunting and I really don't look at the front bead. Will brass look OK or should I find my own ivory sight.

You've ordered a bespoke shotgun. You should not need any front sight at all, white or brass. The brass sight may not match your other guns, but unless you shoot things that must be aimed at like turkeys, the color of the sight is meaningless...Geo

Have the people that are building your gun ship it drilled and tapped for a standard front sight but without the sight installed and put on the sight you desire. Of course you should ask them to reduce the cost for failing to meet your original order.

Is this another CITES issue? Ivory must be pre ban to be allowed and then you must always prove it is pre ban forever. So ivory beads are now in short supply because no sane person want to fight such a hopeless uphill battle for just a few dollars profit.

You could always recycle an old ivory bead from another gun. There have to be thousands of them out there, many on worn out guns or in gunsmiths old drawers just sitting there waiting to be found and reused. You get your classic ivory bead complete with proper aging. Or find a bit of scrap ivory and make your own. Before EBay got so PC I use to buy ivory scraps and small pieces of ivory all the time. None sold there anymore and listing some would get you banned faster than light speed. So nice to live in a modern PC world sometimes.

I prefer a silver bead on a s x s game gun. I hunt in dense woods and the silver reflects light in low light conditions. It gives a reflection on the inner aspect of both barrels which is picked up with my peripheral vision. I think this is partially why doubles point better in a woods. Likely, people would disagree with me here, but this is what I like.
