Has anyone here ever mounted a 1 inch scope such as a Weaver K4 in a Pachmayr Side Mount of Swing Off Style made for 26mm scopes? It appeared that there is enough separation of the rings when they were tightened on a Kahles Super 39 S 26mm that they should tighten up enough on a 1 in. tube sufficiently. Any comments...any thoughts? TIA

Jerry,
Nowdays, most 26mm rings are sold as combination 26mm/1" rings, so I suspect the answer to your question is "yes".

I guess it depends on how close to 26mm they are. One inch equals 25.4 mm. Best way to find out is try it.

I have a Doctor Optics 26mm scope that someone installed with 1" rings...Not a pretty sight. I suggest using 26mm rings. They're not that hard to find. As an option, you could lap the insides of a set of 1" rings.

As I read the original post, the 26mm rings are on the rifle and the plan was to put a 1" scope in them. Some kind of shims should be available to make the 1" tube fit. The top of the line Lyman hunting scope back in the 1950's was the Challenger. It was, still is, a good scope, and it had a 26mm tube. They can sometimes be bought cheap. I know this is not an answer to your question but a workable solution.

I suppose my question would be "Why fool around with a Pachmayr swing mount in the first place?" It is certainly not the best choice for any application I can think of. Secondly, there are plenty of mounts such as this on eBay, and one top part interchanges easily with another. Buy one of them and sell your 26mm top on eBay.

I have a rem 760 pump with pach.swing mount on a 308 deer rifle. It has not missed in over 40 yrs.of service and all one shot kills. I would subjest using plastic gauge to determine the difference in scope dia. and base dia. and then shim the difference with auto bearing shim stock either on the down side or the upper side of the scope mounts.IMHO Regards, Pilgrim

Jerry,
Have you tried the 1" scope yet? If not why not try it? If you tighten the rings and there is still a gap, you are OK.
