I looked at a very nice belguin sidelock today that was engraved in the typical belgiun style ( ribbons-flowers-etc. ), however between the breechballs was engraved a honeybee. Could angelo bee have signed his engraving this way? Has anyone else seen this on other guns?

I've seen Angelo Bee's bees on many firearms.

I do not know how Angelo Bee depicted his bee's as a signature. I did see some pictures on the internet that showed his name engraved "ABEE" next to a bee.

I do know that the "Bee" is a very common motif in France and I assume Belgium too. I have seen bee's engraved on gun being sold through Natura-Buy. Therefore I do not believe the Bee is exclusive of Angelo Bee.

Determining if he did do that specific gun will need to closely compare known guns by him with that motif to that gun.

Can you post pictures?

Angelo's sister was or is also an engraver. Maybe Roger Bleile will know the answer to your question...hopefully he will chime in.

Shown here is how an Angelo Bee engraved gun is typically seen, this one is a Winchester 21.

Thank you all for your replies. This is the first time I have seen a bee engraved on a firearm--but then again--I don't get out much.

Austin,

The model 21 image that Wild Skies posted is the way Angelo Bee has been signing his work since he moved to the US many years ago. All of the guns that I have seen engraved while Angelo worked in Liege for Browning are signed simply "ABEE." The guns engraved in Belgium by Angelo's sister, Rosa Maria Bee, are signed "R.Bee."

I have over 400 examples of engravers signatures in my photo archives but none of them are only the shape of a bee. Nevertheless, that bee symbol you saw could be an engraver's signature not familiar to me or the touch mark of another craftsman or manufacturer.
