I just bought an AyA 4/53 in 20 gauge, circa 2009. While it is marked imp cyl/mod when using my trusty rusty Galazan choke gauge I get blunderbuss and cyl? I don't have the ability to mic the barrels behind the choke to figure constriction. Is it safe to assume this is a bore size issue? I can't see any indication the chokes were modified in any way.
Thanks,
CHAZ

CHAZ,
Nice gun, congratulations.

What is the barrel length on this gun?

Not safe to assume anything until you put it on paper.
Once you pattern the gun with your intended ammo, you
will know what you have.

Mike

28" barrels. Other than a few screws that needed a 1/8 turn to time them the gun looks as new. After always having "vintage" guns it is nice to have one shiny and "new." Now if I could just shoot it better!

As far as the chokes that is just like me, ignoring the obvious. I want to shoot some paper to see where it is shooting anyway, I can count pellets then.

I did go at it a different way, the barrels are marked 15.8 bore, so I measured the chokes and doing the conversion I get improved cylinder and light modified. At least I don't have to worry someone hogged the chokes out.

Thanks,
CHAZ

15.8 for a 20ga is a slight overbore from the normal .615. About .620, which explains why your Galazan tool reads them as more open than they are.
