Doug Oliver, founder of the 16 Gauge Society, has passed away. We've lost another great contributor to the shooting sports way too early. http://www.16ga.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16890&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0Godspeed Doug.

He re-kindled a lot of interest in the 16. Condolences to his family. Gil

Too young, he will be missed. Few people have the fore sight to stick with such a dead gauge, like the 16, to see it reborn and a new generation of followers learn all about it again. His help in spreading knowledge about what was safe to use and where to find information and loading components gave many shooters a chance to fall in love with the 16. Or at least relive old memories and myths.
Some will say that the 16 is a minor niche market but isn't all the double interest just an extension of that type of small market interest. And anyone who keeps the flame alive is worth remembering. Again he and others like him will be missed.

If you go by the popularity of the various gauges with those who report their hunting records to the Loyal Order of Dedicated Grouse Hunters (LODGH), the 16 is doing OK. Not booming in popularity, but not dying either. The numbers I recall were: 9% of LODGH members reported that the 16 was their go-to gauge in the mid-80's. 30 years later, it's up to 15%. Thanks to the efforts of people like Doug.

I have a bunch of 16's. The 16 Gauge Society didn't get me going on the gauge (my dad did that) or convince me of how much I like the gauge, but it is a nice place to go to talk about them. I hope the site and the Society continues without Doug. RIP
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia

I thank Doug for is efforts, energies, and success at bringing together like-minded 16ga nuts as myself
