...there was steel, and it was good (and heavy).

This is the start of the next double rifle project. It will be in .275 Nitro Express (in the UK, 7x57R everywhere else). The plan is bar-in-wood, inboard mounted sidelocks with either hinged or windowed false lockplates (I've not yet decided), sidelever opening and a rising bite, all on a 28 gauge-sized frame.

I don't know if I can embed video on this forum, so here's a link.

AISI 4140? why the "jeweling" or engine turning on the front "knuckles" of the receiver?? Great concept, and the 7X57 is the all-time best of the ,284 calibers- no great recoil, good reload-a-bility in fire-formed cases, little chance of a blown out neck on the cases with proper powder and primer selection- hell of a deal--

The "jeweling" is tool marks from machining

Very nice. I'm equally as impressed as I'm jealous.
Would you be able to keep us posted how it's going during the build ? That'd be really good to see.

Dewey - can you explain this in a little more detail: "inboard mounted sidelocks with either hinged or windowed false lockplates"?

Sidelever DR - I am not really a rifle guy, but I don't think I have ever seen one before.

If I were ever in a position to order a gun like that, I am not sure I could bear the wait for it!

Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

WOW!! Another great project in the works. How long does a project like that and the Fox take?

Bertuzzi did this on their "Gullwing" guns. Imagine the lockplates' swapped left for right and mounted toward the centerline of the gun, then a hinged, false lockplate covers the works. Here's a photo.

I'm also considering leaving the "false" plates fixed and incorporating a window to show off the lockwork. Something like a Scott-style cocking indicator but larger. The windowed lockplate idea would more easily compatible with a sidelever but I've always liked the Gullwing idea.

I've also always believed that the sidelever is ergonomically superior to every other method of opening a break-action gun.
