Soooooo much drop in those old guns. Tough for me who prefers 2" drop at heel.

I have both Fox and Ithaca, both 12 bore. I give the thumbs up to the Fox. My Fox is graceful, my Ithaca is not. BTW Doug, those are some nice Peters shell boxes displayed by your Sterlingworths. smile

Foxes with modern dimensions are out there. Just have to search for them. I prefer my Foxes hands down.

Mr Will, you've thrown a tough choice out there this Friday. I love them both.

I like the Sterlys so much I have one for almost each season. All three are 12ga 1st year pin guns. They are choked ic and mod for opening day doves, mod and mod for late season doves and wood duck holes and full and fuller for open water ducks. One is marked Sterlingworth and the other two Sterlingworth Company with the Philly address. I don't have a Wayne Junction gun.

Not really a NID, but a 20ga Ithaca Lefever A Grade is my go to quail gun, and a 16ga NID "star model" bats cleanup on most everything else.

I can't choose. I'd hate to give up any one of those 5. I have better guns but those are the ones I love best...Geo

The vent rib looks good on that Fox 16b too. Pretty gun! What's it weigh? Does the vent add more weight compared to matted? Seems like a vent rib adds weight to 21's.

My fanciest NID Field, yup, that's what it is:

Any ideas who scratched it up so...Geo

Cell phone pic didnt give best lighting. I think it was some shadows of the branches but it is not a vent rib. Gun weights right at 6 lbs. Choked a little tight like most of those era but spreaders help for the woods.

Yeah, I see now. Plus, I was looking at it on my iPhone. Sure looked vent at 1st glance to me. 6 lb is PERFECT weight for a 16b and a grouse gun for sure. Nice!

Agree. Never seen a striker bound NID, and I'll bet Drew doesn't have any photos of a blown up NID, either.

Post the blown up Fox photos, again, Drew.

Make mine a 16 gauge with, cocking indicators. Wish I could find a decent one.

Ted

I've pretty much given up on vintage American guns because of the DAH issue. However, if I found one with modern stock dimensions then I'd be interested.
