NICE!! Is it a 2 1/2 chambered gun?

I use 2 1/2 inch ammo in my 1887 Win Lever gun

Not sure of chamber length. Never owned a sixteen gauge, so haven't paid attention to the era when the standard changed.

Researcher's catalog pages did make me realize this is the the take down model. Ring below the barrel is to support the magazine tube and wouldn't be needed on a fixed barrel model.

Would need a spanner wrench to tighten the barrel nut each time it was re-assembled.

I would have loved to do that job I am a gluten for punishment which is fun. Great job. I love old guns like that, especially when they are unusual and need tender loving care of a craftsman.

Thanks for the views Joel

Those original repairs were something special, I'm all for pulling them out and making the old gun look good again but goodness you have to enjoy those raw practicable repairs.

i think with all the wood damage i would have pretty much gone for a restock.

James.

They were very raw. You could wobble the stock side to side a couple of inches.

As much damage as this had, a restock was still impractical. The gun just isn't worth enough to justify it.

I made a point of running screws at 90* to the original break to help with any shearing forces under recoil. I also used G-Flex marine epoxy which handles flexing loads very well. I don't have any doubt it will hold up to a reasonable amount of shooting if the new owner wishes to do so.

I bought it for the renovation practice, both wood and metal. It went up on GB today. Can't keep them all.

Very nice work!

One more thing - that original stock had some surprisingly extravagant grain, for what seems to have been a generic mail-order gun.

Someone's going to be pretty happy with it.

That is the first 16 I have seen in this model. I owned one for a short while but it was a 12. Ugly as sin but still worked after almost a hundred years. Nice repair on the stock. And you are right restocking would cost more than the gun is worth unless it was a family heirloom.

Off brands generate very little interest in pumps from what I have seen. Several Union Firearm pumps have sold for 200 or less in 12. Seen Spencer's in high condition get almost no interest. I think pumps, other than winchester 12 and 42 there is just very little demand. A few diehard Ithaca fans looking for early guns might buy now and then. But pump sales are only better than bolt action shotguns on gunbroker.
