As Churchill said..."all I wanted was compliance with my request after a proper discussion"...or something very close to that.

You're very welcome.
Engraving is an extremely fascinating art form and quite worthy of study in and of itself.

Politeness is also a " fascinating art form " that apparently some of us have NOT learned. Try it, you might like it.

While we are on the discussion of engraving, if it's not too far off topic, I'd like to know how you guys that are obviously keen on analyzing the quality of engravings might explain some of the things you look at to judge quality on the engravings one might find on the break open action's top lever fin? I've heard that the engraving there is a good indicator of attention to detail elsewhere.

How do you analyze the engravings there?

Take the example found on the OP link for that Meridian and compare to this one:

http://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-fo...un_id=100578497

The Meridian to my eye looks like it's not as fine a cut, is there anything else to say it's not as nice? Looking strictly at the top lever fin of course.

Apparently, so is sarcasm. Paul if you're sole purpose in joining this conversation is to admonish me for not being polite, I'd suggest that you go play Mr. Rogers elsewhere.

+1

And kudos to DAM16SXS who took some constructive criticism in stride and apparently without offense.

top lever fin?the overall layout and execution is what makes it a good or great engraving job.covering a gun in crappy engraving means nothing.tast full well executed limited engraving is a much better idea.mc

Hmm, if not "Top Lever fin", what term do you use to describe the location one's thumb would press against to open a double barrel action?

Did not mean to imply that the engraving in this small spot was the only place to inspect. Simply a potential tell-tale of work done elsewhere. Would still like to know how the experts would compare my two examples submitted above.
