I appreciate the posts on this topic over the last five years, but the details a somewhat confusing. I load 12'S and 20's, but my two youngest daughters really got into it with me with my double grade 5 A Grade 410 Ithaca. They find the 20 still a little too much in terms of recoil. Granted a 410 is frustrating in terms of shot profile to hit a trap target, but they are not dissuaded. At $120+ a case, I am looking for options. I also appreciate that posting load specifics, from a CYA aspect has potential legal ramification if things go south, so I am asking if anyone could/would direct me to loads that work for them (2.5 inch shells, 1/2 oz loads). I would be reloading with a MEC 600. I have Alliant 410 and easy access to Hodgdon H110. Remington, Winchester, Federal hulls are on my list. Rec's on primers and wads are appreciated.
Much obliged.

Of those I'd use H110. When I used H110 my load was 16.5 grains of H110, Nobel Sport primer (I'd use any primer other than Fed 209A or CCI 209M), Claybuster CB5050-410HS, 1/2 ounce of shot in Winchester, Remington, Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls. I now use Alliant 200MP which is very similar to H110 but slightly slower burning.
If you go to the reloading data center at Hodgdon.com you'll find a large number of loads using H1110 (WW296 is the same powder with a different label).

If you have Win296, and AA hulls, there is a great 7400psi load in the Hodgdon manual. AA hulls Winchester296 16.0gr Rem. 209P WAA410HS 7,400 PSI 1,200 Confirm before using at http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/shotgun

I tried sending via e-mail but kept getting "delivery failure" notice so here is Mr. Kopkai's .410 model 5 for those who might find it of interest.

Go to the on line powder manufactors sites. Lots of loads. If you want long life from your $.25 empties use WW.

For a quarter century I loaded compression formed AAs with Win 209s, 296, a WAA-41 and the amount of #9 shot the MEC half ounce bar threw. In recent years I've been loading STS with Remington primer and wad, and Lil' Gun powder. I've found that with the Remington case and wad I could hog out my MEC bar to where it threw a true half ounce of shot.

Thanks gentlemen for your help. Does anyone use CCI209 primers for such loads? I know it's a hot one and probably unsuitable for slower 410 powders. Thoughts, experience? I have thousands of them for my 12's and 20's using WST1, WSL3 and WSF3
PS. Yup, I'm that old and squirreled that much powder and Winny AA hulls!

Thanks folks for your input. The Hodgdon reloading website is great and I will have a lot to work with.

The new AAHS hulls are the most durable .410 hull we have ever had. I still load the comp formed hulls, though.
The Hodgdon website has data for both hulls. Take care to note data differs significantly. The HS hull data specifies heavier powder charges. But it is easier to get a full 1/2 oz payload into them, if that matters.
Suitable wads also differ for the two Win hulls.
