I hope SDH does not mind that I copy his post into a new thread. I thought this might make it easier to find later if someone wants to find information on Len Brownell.

(I could a started a whodayathink thread?)
Anyone seriously interested can PM me.

I believe Taylor and Robbins were big in the early days of bench rest shooting. Didn't they build the Mauser 22-250 that held the 200 yard record for a while in the late 40's? I have read that in the early days Brownell did not do his own barrel work but sent that out to others. Later I believe he started doing the whole shebang. You could not be more right about his workmanship. The workmanship in his checkering and inletting is just amazing.

Great rifle, thanks for posting.

John

pardon my ignorance, but there is a guy in San Diego by the name of Brownell who makes checkering tools. Very nice tools actually. Is he related at all?

That's great John, the first I've seen of Len Brownell's hand signature and much easier to find for reference.
I received an email from another reliable source about T&R as benchrest barrel fitters. In the case of this rifle I imagine they hired Brownell to stock their project, maybe(?) I think that this rifle is from the early 60s partially because it has a Redfield "Bear Cub" (not Kollmorgan) offered 1959-64.
I'm pretty sure in later years Len marked his complete custom jobs on the barrel for all to see.
