Hi,

Looking for some advice based on the collective expertise of the board. I have a 5.5 lb 28 ga o/u that i really enjoy shooting but it has some quality issues so i may be moving on. I would like to replace it with an o/u of similar weight but of good quality control. I like berettas and have a 687 12 ga o/u, a 12 ga 391, a 20 ga sxs and previously had a 12 ga 686. All have had zero issues and been of good quality, hence the basis for my question.

I have seen 687 SP II with PG on a baby frame at 6 lbs 2 oz. Would it at all be possible to have a gunsmith take 6 ounces off the gun while maintaining the balance? certainly some weight could come from drilling the stock but I don't know if I could get that much weight out and it would shift weight toward the front. Anything else that could be done to put the o/u on a diet? Or is this a bad idea?

Thanks,
David

Buy the gun as you want it as it
To modify a new gun is way outside my comfort curve.

If you want a 687 SP II that weighs 6 ounces lighter than
6 lbs 2 oz then call the Beretta Rep and tell him or her
and get what you want.

Just do not take one "off the shelf", it may take some discussions with Beretta, but can be done. Tell them you are
a Beretta fella and what you have and want to still be
part of their team smile

You may end up with an SP III, I do not know if you can still get new SP IIs

Mike

I had a 687 SP, believe it was a V. Straight grip. Weighed just under 6# with 28" barrels.

The Beretta ASEs have a good reputation. I had one in 12 gauge with double triggers that I liked very much and the fit and finish were very, very good.

Here is one on GunsInternational in 20 gauge at 5lbs 8oz with a single trigger.

I have no connection to the gun or seller.

Best,

Mike

Contact Rich Cole at http://www.colegun.com/
This time of the year he's probably at his Florida location. He's the go to man for Beretta USA gunsmithing. Gil

When I read your post, I thought the exact same thing as Mike.
A Beretta ASEL or a EELL if you want a prettier one.
They are just hard to find and some of the prices reflect that.
That gun at GI sure looks like it has some wood repairs.... I'd inspect it well.

Ken Pendelton (the listing dealer above) is a good guy and I would call him even if you don't want the one listed. Tell him what you want, it may take a little while, but he will find you one.
