I am the proud owner of a new-to-me 12 gauge BSS with 30" barrels. I bought it for shooting targets. I have several questions.
1) Are the barrels and/or chambers chrome lined?
2). Does anyone put double triggers in these? The trigger plate has two slots in it.

Don't know how committed I am to this gun yet. Going to shoot it as is before I do anything to it. So far I like it a lot after just 2 rounds of skeet in the wind.
Thanks,
Jeff

Congratulations on getting one of the best suited doubles around for clay targets. I have been shooting them for years. They are an easy gun to shoot well, IMO. I do not believe my barrels had been chrome lined, as I had a friend open the choke on the left barrel to match that in the right barrel, and he mentioned nothing to me about it being hard to cut. He also threaded one for himself to use with screw in choke tubes.

Can't answer about the triggers. It has one of the finest single triggers ever built. They are dead nuts reliable, and mine have always broke cleanly and crisply, needing no adjustment.

Hope you enjoy it, Jeff. But, if you decide later to move it, please let me know. I just may need another one to set up with more open chokes ......... kind of a back-up gun for very close presentations on the sporting course.

All my best, SRH

May God bless America and those who defend her.

I hefted the 30" SKB 12 g HR200 the othe day. Very similar feel. It's an option.

I have one 12 Ga. and two 20 Ga. BSS's and none have chromed lined barrels. They are well made, with a weight suitable for clay games. The 12 and one of the 20's have single selective triggers and the other 20 is non-selective.

The BSS single trigger is also mechanical vs inertia.

The only BSS with double triggers was the sidelock, which is a totally different gun. I have seen a couple BSS on which someone has done a DT conversion. If you're looking for a similar gun with DT, you're in luck. Miroku, which made the BSS, also made shotguns under the Charles Daly name. (And you'll also see a few marked just Miroku, or else Western Field made for Montgomery Ward.) Almost all of those Miroku doubles were DT guns. They're cheaper than the BSS (because they don't say Browning). Most are pistol grip/beavertail guns, and most have extractors rather than ejectors. They used to be real "sleepers" on the used market. Not so much any more. But they're still good guns for the money IMO, and a good choice if you're looking for something the quality of a BSS for less money and with double triggers.

I have a 12 with 30" tubes also. Choked f/f. I bought it new with the idea that it would be a good duck gun. I did kill a few mallards with it but quickly discovered the chokes were way to tight for the type of duck hunting I was doing at that time. Killed a turkey with it also. I probably have no more than a box of shells through it. Every once in awhile I think about what I should do with that gun. I did consider a clays gun but never got around to addressing the chokes.

Great gun that your grand kids will fight over.
Too bad they never made a 30" 20 gauge.
Really too bad Browning never made a 28 gauge SxS

Far right is a BSS 30" set of barrels fitted to a "Sporter" frame and forend. Briley thinwalls added.
Far left is a double trigger "SideLock"

Miroku made essentially the same exact gun with a splinter/straight stock/double trigger for the UK market. Same receiver, not the Miroku 500.

You may get lucky and be able to source a trigger assembly from across the pond.

Thanks for the replies. I have to say that for years I kind of looked down on the BSS, but after coddling and fiddling with older guns I wanted a SxS I could just pick up and shoot. My friends mostly shoot M21s, but they are a lot more money than a BSS and I kind of like being a little different. Have to say that other than my $750 Merkel 200E 16 gauge this is the most gun I have bought for the money. So far I have $1335 invested. I am impressed with the quality of design and build. Very few parts, they're large and well machined. Big recoil shield at the back of the receiver, rebated frame and bushed firing pins. It's 8lb 2 oz, but balances okay. With more recoil pad for length it should balance even better. If I go whole hog I'll have to restock it as the factory stock is too short and low. I'd also put Briley thin walls in it. The trigger pulls are actually quite good, so I think I'll just leave it a reliable single trigger. All my other SxS guns are DT and I did once try pulling the trigger guard for the left barrel. Most likely sell my Fox AE to fund this. There is something to say for a big, solid dependable gun. Owning this for several days has definitely improved my opinion of these guns. Might even have to pick up a 20 gauge!
Regards,
Jeff

Bob,
Is the Sporter forend smaller? The full beavertail feels a bit too much for me.
