A few thoughts....about an American Icon who passed away on his 79th Birthday.

If you play a country song backwards;
The guy gets his truck and his girl back, his dog comes back to life and he makes amends with the cowboy he got into a bar fight with....

Merle attended a Johnny Cash concert in San Quentin while he was doing time in San Quentin!

He played and sang both kinds of American music, Country and Western!

Buy old Merle vinyl $4 a piece - play it on the record player in your cabin.

He was to play with Willie Nelson, New Riders Purple Sage and The Grateful Dead Sept 78 - couldn't make the concert, detained in a country jail somewares.....
(country meets rock and roll)

When our country is being torn apart this election year, we remember he sang "The Fightin Side of Me",
If you don't love it, leave it.
1 - million hits on google search for "move to Canada".
1968 all over again...

He cut an album last year with Willie, Django and Jimmie, one cut, "It's all going to Pot". Feels a little like that...

Thank you Merle for being Merle....

Saw him with Bob Dylan about 15 years ago in a small club in Denver.....a night to remember for sure. He was a one of a kind and as genuine as they come. Thanks for the great tunes and RIP.

I hate to think what's going to happen to country music when all these guys are gone (not that it hasn't happened already). RIP Merle; you were the real deal.

He and Willie- dead drunk and at 0400 hrs. in the AM- did one take for my favorite duo they did- "Pancho and Lefty" written by the great Townes Van Zandt-- I also caught his "Big City Turn Me Loose---- playing on the jukebox in the Northern MN bar scene that opens the great movie "Fargo"--And he had good taste, drank George Dickel, rocks- a splash of branch water--RIP Merle- you were always the "Real Deal"!!!

Yes, I heard of his passing and went straight to the CD player and popped in one of his CD'S. He is probably already up there picking and singing with the greats that went before him!

He was our front page feature in Amarillo this morning. Seems our town always had a special place in his heart.....for a dubious reason. He said it was here as a fourteen year old vagabond he lost his virginity in a cat house. Well, I guess that's another claim to fame our city can flaunt for national recognition.....

I'm gonna drag out some of my old Merle today for a road trip. Going up to see an old friend on his birthday. Rumor is he isn't doing too well either.
