I have a nice little .22 Hornet converted rook rifle The metal is awesome and the wood grain is good. The problem is that someone in it's past has refinished the stock in a less than expert manner. Now there are tiny areas where the stock does not touch the metal and it just doesn't look good.

The question is....Is there a way, short of restocking, maybe by re-inletting/re-fitting that the present stock can be made to look reasonable? I do have a blank with great figure and color but with a less than stellar wrist that probably could work, considering the very low recoil for the caliber, if I do go the restocking route.

Bob:

Could you glass bed those areas to fill the gaps with an appropriately colored mixture?

There are alternatives to glass, they just might take professional application. A third vote for Dennis.

I'm a big proponent of correct wrist grain and always remind folks that it doesn't matter what caliber if you drop it.

Would love to see the rifle.

So here are some pics of the rifle. On re-inspection mild over sanding and the word tiny may have been a significant understatement. Note the light visible in the last photo.

Thanks for posting the photos Bob. I couldn't offer any advice without a hands on inspection. From here it looks like I'd probably live with it.
