Looking for advice,
Had a frustrating evening last evening, a couple friends and I went to shoot sporting clays. This was the first time shooting my 3E 12 gauge NID since shooting it down at the Southern shoot.
My first station, my right barrel fails to fire and I'm thinking, what the heck. I notices a little rust around the safety even though I made sure to clean it well after finishing in a down pour at the last station at the Southern.
My first thought is, maybe I have a little rust inside the action, so I sprayed some penetrating oil in the right side firing pin hole. No luck, so I ended up using my friends NID to shoot the course.
I get home, take the stock off and find
the right hammer is broken. mad
Has anybody ever had this happen to them with an Ithaca NID?
What is my best option, having one made, finding a donor gun, or does someone have a hammer for an Ithaca NID/

Thanks,
Stan

I had it happen on a 7E NID Gunter welded it up and I was off to the races. Les H. may also be able to help. Foe $26 though you can't go wrong. The only question is is it harden properly.
I shot my 3E in hard rain once and the single trigger parts rusted up it has cocking indicators.
When I read the Numrich listing it didn't say it was for an NID! The NID hammer is far different from a Flues for example

That is the correct part number for a NID hammer don't know if it is right or left. I'd call them and make sure before ordering one. There are a few gunsmiths capable of working on a NID and one of them might have a hammer on hand.

Thanks for the heads up on Numrich,
I called Numrich on Friday, I was informed that these hammers they're selling are from old Ithaca stock, not something produced recently.
They said there is no left or right, same hammer for either side.
I ordered two, and I expect to see them tomorrow.
This 3E does have cocking indicators and what you stated about the reasons Ithaca did away with cocking indicators went through my mind Walt. After disassembling the gun, there was maybe a spot or two of rust, not bad, but had it sat awhile, it very well may have been worse.
Any thoughts on why this hammer would have failed? Dry firing?
Thanks,
Stan

It broke because it was Wednesday,
Hammers like to break on special days when you are with friends

Putting oil in firing pin holes is the leading cause of oil soaked wood. It will lead to problems rather than fix them.
