Does anyone recall the thread where the moronic concept of muzzle flip was discussed?
thanks

When one hangs out at the range there's a definite perception - and it doesn't take a genius to see it, that gunners are fed up being McIntoshed by reverting back to the shorter barrels of yesteryear for their fowling pieces, for no other reason than the fear of muzzle flip. Do you feel the perception, too?

Nope, I don't see that here. None of them ever heard of MM anyway, and very few would know what muzzle flip is, but I see no trending at all toward short barrels, even though I wish it would happen. I'd love to see 32" barreled guns being discounted due to lack of demand.

How does one account for differences in the drop dimensions for same length barrels sxs and o/u guns when getting fitted if there was not something inherently different in the recoil?

No less an authority than Sir Gerald Burrard stated emphatically that if you had two sets of barrels fitted to the same action/stock they would impact at different points due to the greater barrel whip of the longer barrels. It would seem only natural that an over under would have more barrel rigidity in the vertical plane than a SxS so would likely be less affected by "Whip". One of course can always make up their own their mind whether to believe Wonko or Burrard, as for "ME" thick I'll stick with Burrard.

Anybody here familiar with quad fly rods? Depending on how you hold one, it will cast quite differently according to which plane the action is using. Perhaps that will help explain the difference between a stack barrel and a side by side?

While I dearly love my 32 inch barreled hammered double barrel, I find my 28 inch 16 bore quite a treat also.
As for muzzle flip an other theories and Hokum; one is simply well served by blasting the pattern board and adjusting the stock to the desired point of aim.
The how any why the shot is delivered to the desired point of aim becomes a moot point.

No need to rehash the same tired BS.
thanks for the link, AM. A person I know needed a good laugh and I couldn't think of a better one than the nitwit crap in that thread. He always enjoys the application of Hogwarts non-Newtonian physics to firearms discussion.
