Came across one of these for sale. Not really familiar with this builder or action. Any opinions?

Personally I think 470 is to much for the Browning action unless its a factory made heavier version and not a pair of barrels fitted to a standard Browning action

I just posted on your other thread before seeing this one. I went to Mr. Makinson's shop about 2 months ago for him to go over my Holland to ensure it was safe to shoot. I found him to be a very, very friendly gentleman and extremely knowledgeable. He said he started his career in Birmingham before moving to Canada. And on while inspecting my double he spend an extra 30-40 minutes putting it back on face for free- a large step above and beyond! He stated he didn't want to see me walk out with a gun that wasn't right if he could help fix it. Made quite a favorable impression on me of course!
I saw a double he had made himself, but I didn't shoot it of course. Looked like a well made double with minimal engraving.

I have been into Nick's shop a number of times. While my interest is primarily limited to SxS shotguns, I would be comfortable asking Nick to do just about any gunsmithing I might require. I can't speak to his DR's however. But he doesn't seem to be to be the kind of guy who does things half assed.
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia

Nimrod,
As info, all of Nick's work that I have seen, based on the BSS action, he has machined the breech face and added a third fastener. As well, the quality of the steel in the BSS is second to none! I would have absolutetly no reservations at all about buying and shooting one of his creations! I've built nine double rifles myself, and have hunted and shot extensively with them, so I do have some knowledge of this subject.
Best regards, Ron Vella, Oshawa.

Don't forget that in the beginning, Butch Searcy's double rifles were built on the BSS action. While they don't set the world on fire on the secondary market, it's not because of strength or reliability. I've shou 20 rounds through one of the Searcy's rifles, and it was solid.
