If I am correct in my identification, it appears that I have added a Stogers 03 to the collection. What say you?

I say you are correct, The stockwork is same as the 03 sold from the MP collection by Amoskeak in November 2014. ( not same rifle) Sorry I can't put up the link, i saw it in the catalogue page 193. Congratulations Thaine!!!
Was it the shaping of the stock at the loading port that first caught your eye?
Dan.

Dan,

Yes, that and the fact I was the successful bidder on Michael's. I did a lot of studying back then so I could hopefully identify one if I saw it. Michael wrote often about being able to identify "fill in the blank" by features or feel and since I have handled only a limited number of examples of anyone's work, I still have to go on hunch and SWAG factor every now and then. I was/am pretty certain that this is a Stoegers, based on the port and other features. I also have a Stoegers stock, from eBay, that is in sad condition, but exhibits all the same characteristics. It will be interesting to compare the two rifles and extra stock once this is in hand.

Thaine

So along these lines, is the stock in the link below a Stoeger stock with a cheekpiece?

Stoeger stock?

It has the same cheekpiece as the one I have. Keep in mind that Stoegers sold the stocks to anyone so the finished rifle depends on the skill of the individual. This one appears to be an unaltered issue low number rifle with a wwII barrel, the Lyman sight will usually sell for 150.00, so basically you would be buying a stock for 300.00 less what the barreled action is worth. 150.00?

The front sight is a Lyman XNB which is worth a bit too. I am not buying much these days, but the ensemble doesn't seem too badly priced. It has been there for a couple of months.
