Keep it clean and lubricate sparingly.

I clean often, usually after each outing. And my rule on grease is to use it very sparingly and only in places where it is needed. When applying I try to follow the rule "if you can see it, it is too much".

I use Superlube. A synthetic silicone based lubricant.

Hook, knuckle, and the underlug bolt. If a Purdey style bolt then I will put a tiny drop of oil on it once or twice a year.

As least two people posting here have illustrated they can't grasp that, or the temperature correlation that goes with it.

If your barrels are too hot to touch, oils or, the old standby of vaseline, are soon going to be running out of where you put them. In the case of a hinge pin, there is a nice, absorbant, sponge located close at hand, to soak up that oil for you.

It is called the front end wood.

Temperature stable synthetics are a blessing.

Pretty obvious I am one of the two, to which you refer. Also pretty obvious to me that you jump to conclusions. If I could not grasp that oil runs, why would I be using grease? And furthermore, you misunderstood my other comment. I will rephrase it for you. It matters not one whit that the temperature stability of Microlon Ultra Blue is stable at minus 100 degrees, and at +750 degrees. Better?
