Also known as .25-.35 WCF. I can't find it anywhere and want to try it in my "new" Franz Jaeger drilling.

Drilling Guy,
You can very easily load ammo for your drilling, this would also extend your enjoyment of it. Dies and .257" dia. bullets are readily available. Cases for 25-35 Win. may be "seasonal items" if available at all. It is only necessary to full length size very common 30-30 cases, and check for rim fit, to make perfectly useable 6.5x52R/25-35 Win. cases. If you would like to do this, several on this site will be happy to help you.

And with proper-shaped modern 100 gr. bullets, the .25-35 is no longer a marginal deer round when you shoot at any sensible distance. Most drillings and combos also get better ballistics out of it than the common 20" carbines did.

The max pressure allowed for 6.5x52R was a couple hundred bar. less than for 25-35, in spite of the fact that the case was the same. The 6.5x52R was still a good cartridge for it's intended purpose, and I would use it on our Alabama whitetail, with confidence.

I have a Match Grade Machine custom 22" .25-35 barrel on a G2 Contender carbine which shoots Barnes "unleaded" (required here) .257 bullets very accurately. Has killed two blacktail bucks (as you may know these aren't exactly huge), one desert mule deer (much bigger) and two wild pigs (one at 269# with guts and blood out). None went more than 20 yards from the spot they were hit. Longest shot (mulie) was about 120 yds, most much closer.

I suspect that even at the safe pressures for the 6.5x52R drilling these bullets would work just fine, with similar results. (And you wouldn't be hunting with a butt-ugly gun like my G2....).

The S&B ammo is pretty nice stuff and the brass is very re-loadable. I use their ammo in my 5.6x52R combo gun, my 7x57R Drilling, and 9.3x72R drilling. I wish they loaded 6.5x58R and imported their 5.6x50R Mag. I did acquire some S&B 5.6x50R Mag Brass but no loaded ammo.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

oskar,
I think there will be an article on the 6.5x58R S&S in the next issue of "Waidmannsheil".

Drilling Guy,
Thanks for the "heads up". Considering their background, we should all support them, when we can.
