To repair or not?

Purchased with the idea of excising the 'pad' in the cut-out and inletting a new piece of wood.

Now I am debating the idea. Not really sure any repair will increase the value enough to justify the time.

If it were mine, I would install a new piece of leather over a horsehair stuffing the way it was done at Purdeys. The characteristic brass nails would be the final touch.

The next trapshooter/owner of that gun may just love the present alterations.

Even with the Morgan and that ergonomic hooked pad he still couldn't shoot it as evidenced by the otherwise high condition.

A straight stock too. Go figure.

That's just where I want to mount a trap gun, out there on my shoulder joint...

Trapshooters do this serially, leaving a wake of restoration projects.

My first SBT was that gun's twin. From 1918 and a totally fine gun. Repairing that would not be at all complicated and likely not affect the value since they are nearly all "shooters" anyway.

Doc!

How ya been? Guess I should check in her more often.

No need to send this out. This is the kind of stuff I do now. "Easy" enough to do, just figuring out the time vs. dollars.

From what I can find, dollars wins out. Too much time for the return. The next owner can have it taken care of.
